All of the events were the result of the work, commitment, and dedication of Indonesian youths
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Youth Pledge Museum held a flag-raising ceremony in the courtyard of its building on Kramat Raya Street Number 106, Central Jakarta on Thursday, to commemorate the 93rd Youth Pledge Day.

The museum is managed by the Directorate General of Culture of the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry.

Director General of Culture at the ministry, Hilmar Farid, who served as the inspector of the ceremonies, delivered a speech at the commemoration themed ‘United, Rise, and Grow’.

The theme was chosen to reflect the commitment of the youths in the 1928 Youth Pledge Declaration, officials from the museum said.

"Actually, the theme is relevant to all Indonesians. However, it is more important for the youth. We hope that the youth can recover Indonesia from the COVID-19 pandemic and strive to boost our economic growth," Farid said.

He emphasized that the pandemic has not only affected public health, but also the economic conditions, education, and social life of the Indonesian people.

Furthermore, Indonesian youths have historically played the role of agents of change and have been involved in various important events in the journey to Indonesia’s independence, he pointed out.

For instance, the establishment of the youth organization Budi Utomo in 1908, the Youth Pledge Declaration in 1928, the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence in 1945, he said.

"All of the events were the result of the work, commitment, and dedication of Indonesian youths," Farid added.

The ceremony on Thursday took place at 8 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.

Ten members of the Flag-Raising Force (Paskibra) from the Matraman sub-district participated in the ceremony.

In addition, local residents also took part in the ceremony under the observance of strict health protocols, including wearing masks and maintaining physical distance.
