We hope that Pertamina, as an energy company of Indonesia, can contribute more in climate change and reducing carbon emission in the worldJakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina has said that it has developed a framework to ensure activities related to social and environmental sustainability continue to run well in order to maintain the greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction cycle.
"This framework is our (Pertamina's) social responsibility which consists of four aspects," Pertamina President Director & CEO Nicke Widyawati said during a talk show on the green economy on the sidelines of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, on Monday.
The aspects comprise community-based adaptation and mitigation approaches which are greening, using renewable energy, waste management, and agricultural cultivation, she informed.

The greening program is aimed at increasing and maintaining vegetation cover and includes a mangrove cultivation program, she said.
The new renewable energy program aims at energy conservation for community development and includes village electrification and micro-hydropower plant development, Widyawati informed.
The waste management program aims for use of solid and liquid waste to produce fertilizer and energy, she said.
The energy company is also encouraging agricultural cultivation with low GHG emissions and the prevention of land and forest fires, she added.

"These four aspects that interact with each other should be implemented in parallel so they can bring a huge impact," Widyawati remarked.
Furthermore, to ensure that sustainability programs and strategies run well and are recorded, 10 sustainability focuses have been outlined, she said. Each aligns with sustainable development goals (SDGs) and has its primary target, she added.
For instance, in the environmental segment, the state-owned oil and gas company is striving to address climate change with a target of 30 percent of emissions reduction by 2030, which is in accordance with goals numbers 7 and 13 of SDGs, according to her.
Pertamina reduced 27.08 percent of its emissions during 2010-2020, exceeding Indonesia's nationally determined contributions (NDC) target in 2020 of 26 percent, she pointed out.
In the energy sector, the Indonesian government is aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 314 million tons by 2030, of which 183.66 million tons, or more than 50 percent, is a target for the New & Renewable Energy (NRE) sector, she added.
"We hope that Pertamina, as an energy company of Indonesia, can contribute more in climate change and reducing carbon emission in the world," Widyawati remarked.
