Temanggung, Central Java (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission VII member Abdul Kadir Karding has urged Indonesian villages to develop definitive village maps and get them recognized through a mayor or district head decree.

"The DPR RI's Commission VII urges village heads to exert their effort in resolving village border issues," Karding told village heads attending a village border mapping socialization event, hosted by Commission VII and the Geospatial Information Agency, in Temanggung, Central Java, on Thursday.

The lawmaker also urged the authorities to assist villages and districts, particularly in the country's outermost and border areas, to delineate their border and resolve border issues.

A village map is a must as government institutions providing benefits for villages often require a village map during the application process, he explained. Border delineation established by a map would also be useful to avoid conflicts with other villages, Karding added.

"For instance, evidence of the village's total area would be requested by officials when the village is applying for fertilizer subsidy. A village map, complemented by statistics and financial data, would also be helpful for the village authority in the future," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Geospatial Information Agency head Muh Aris Marfai emphasized the need for a village map for village development, saying information regarding village borders would allow more effective and orderly development planning.

Marfai reaffirmed the agency's commitment to supporting the mapping process in villages, including the delineation of regional borders.

"Our duty is to delineate village, cities, and districts, and national borders," the agency head said.

Continuous dissemination of information regarding village map and border delineation is a must, and village leaders and relevant officials must collaborate to support the village map development before submitting it to the superior authority to be made definitive by a mayor or district head decree, Marfai noted.
