By operating SPAM, the water from Way Sekampung Dam can be channeled and purified.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry has accelerated work on the Bandar Lampung Water Supply System (SPAM).

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono informed that the construction of the Bandar Lampung SPAM will increase the capacity of the piped water services from the previous 30 percent to 60 percent.

"By operating SPAM, the water from Way Sekampung Dam can be channeled and purified to be safe drinking water for the community in Bandar Lampung city. Hopefully, the project can be completed on target, or even earlier," he said in a written statement received here on Thursday.

The SPAM will serve 60 thousand house connections (SR), or equivalent to 300 thousand people in the city, as it is expected to supply clean water to the Way Rilau city-owned Tap Water Company (PDAM) at 750 liters per second, the minister added.

The Bandar Lampung SPAM is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) that are being carried out under the Public-Private Partnership (KPBU) scheme, which was launched in 2018 at an investment of Rp1.3 trillion.

Meanwhile, the construction of the entire water supply system is targeted to be finished by 2024. It is expected to remain operational for 25 years from the commercial operation date on November 1, 2020.
