The AKMI serves as diagnostic data for improving learning in madrasahs
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs is conducting the Indonesian Madrasah Competency Assessment (AKMI) for 12,809 Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic elementary schools) to gauge and hone students' skills in literacy, numeracy, science, and socio-culture, or religious moderation.

"The AKMI serves as diagnostic data for improving learning in madrasahs, including to measure students' competence as well as material for consideration in mapping the quality of the students' competence," Director General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Ali Ramdhani noted in a written statement received here, Monday.

Ramdhani informed that the assessment is being conducted on November 8-20, 2021, with 12,809 madrasahs, or 350,135 students, spread across 34 provinces, partaking in it.

According to Ramdhani, the number of madrasahs participating in the assessment is only half of the total number of madrasahs nationwide. The other 50 percent of madrasahs will be used as a control group to evaluate the impact of the AKMI program in order to improve the quality of learning and increase the competence of madrasah students.

Results of the AKMI are used as a reference for improving learning and other policies, including those to strengthen religious moderation and socio-cultural characteristics of madrasah students, he affirmed.

"Technological infrastructure used in the AKMI is a multistage test (MST), an artificial intelligence-based technology that is used to detect student competencies accurately. Students can work on the assessment by using computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, who reviewed the implementation of AKMI at Al-Hamid Madrasah Ibtidaiyah and Yusufiyah Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in East Jakarta, lauded the assessment and hoped for continuous innovations in improving the standards and competencies of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students.

"Continue to innovate in improving the standards and competencies of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students, so that our students can compete with those from other schools," the minister affirmed.
