Semarang (ANTARA) - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo has instructed all agencies and elements of society, especially those engaged in disaster handling and management, to stay alert until April 2022 to reduce risks during the rainy season.

"Information from the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) noted that Central Java will be hit by extreme weather, with heavy rains projected from December to February," Pranowo noted here on Tuesday.

He reminded all related stakeholders to be prepared in a bid to avoid the worst-case scenario.

Pranowo made the statement while leading a disaster preparation meeting at the Central Java Governor's office that was attended by ranks of the Indonesia Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri), Attorney General's Office, and all elements of disaster volunteers in Central Java.

He also ordered all regional heads to continue to edify and distribute disaster maps as well as disseminate information to the public.

"Please be cooperative with disaster activists and volunteers. Community groups can also be involved to continue to provide education. Use an early warning system even with simple tools, which the public already understands," Pranowo stated.

Refugee places must also be prepared by implementing strict health protocols, especially in disaster-prone areas, he added.

"Logistics must also be ready, and all equipment must be on standby, with no damaged ones. I also urge that a disaster management simulation be held at least once this month to train people to face the worst-possible scenario," Pranowo remarked.

In addition to disaster preparedness, he urged agencies in the forestry sector to continue to promote planting activities by involving the community and educating the public about the importance of a clean environment.

"In this rainy season, let us intensify planting activities. However, we also have to stay alert for disasters," he added.
