"This is the first large retention basin in Ciracas or East Jakarta. Its function is the same, which is to maximize water absorption from rainwater that enters the GOR Ciracas area," head of Ciracas Sub-district, Mamad, stated here on Friday.
Mamad has included two retention basins to be constructed in GOR's garden and parking lot, with a width of 25x8 square meters and 13x8 square meters, respectively.
The third basin is being built at the back, near the football field, with a width of 13x7 square meters.
"These three retention ponds were built by Jakarta's Water Resources Office (SDA). Around the retention ponds will be several absorption wells, with a depth of 22 meters," he revealed.

He noted that these absorption wells aim to manage rainwater in the GOR Ciracas area.
According to the sub-district head, rainwater will collect in the retention pond to prevent it from flowing into the streets or waterways that might give rise to puddles.
"If this retention basin is already functioning, then the rainwater that pours down onto the GOR Ciracas area will enter the retention pool both directly and indirectly. Then, (the basins) become reserves of clean water in the surrounding area during the dry season," he expounded.
Similarly, the Central Jakarta administration has also prepared some retention basins, located at two points on Letjen Suprapto Street, Cempaka Putih Sub-district, to increase the area's flood control capacity.
The two retention basins were built on an area of five hundred square meters each. They are slightly different from other basins that are usually rectangular, with the ones on Cempaka Putih having a garden to increase the aesthetic appeal.
