The agency believes that if the national independence in innovation is realized, the economy can grow from the innovation sector.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has said that it supports bringing research results to the stage of commercialization or entering the industrial world.

"The hope is research and innovations emerge and they can be processed into commercialization," acting deputy for research and innovation utilization at BRIN, Mego Pinandito, said at the Indonesia Palm Oil Research Week 2021 here on Wednesday.

BRIN has become a bridge for saving research results from the "valley of death", meaning research results ending nowhere or without commercialization efforts, he added.

If there is commercialization, future research results can serve as tools that can be utilized by the industry and society, he said.

BRIN supports and oversees the development of technology and innovation, starting from basic research, concept, and procedures, he added.

The agency will monitor the development of technology and innovation until a commercial product is realized, Pinandito said.

In addition, BRIN has opened research infrastructure or facilities that will serve as open platforms for domestic and international collaboration to support technology creation and innovation, he informed.

"The industry can benefit from grants of clinical or functional trials that are facilitated by BRIN, so the prototype creation process can be completed properly," Pinandito remarked.

Industry or business players do not need to build their own research facilities because they can use the ones at BRIN, in addition to using the resources of researchers at the agency to help resolve problems, he said.

According to Pinandito, one of the strategies undertaken for increasing the capacity of science, technology, and innovation has been strengthening the triple helix cooperation between government, industry, and academia.

The triple helix synergy will support research to answer the needs of industry and society until it reaches the phase of commercialization, he observed.

With advanced research and innovation, BRIN expects Indonesia's competitiveness to grow, he said.

"The agency believes that if national independence in innovation is realized, the economy can grow through the innovation sector," he added.
