Lava from the volcano, which also borders the province of Central Java, spread over a maximum distance of two thousand meters to the southwest between midnight and 6 a.m. local time, the agency reported.
According to BPPTKG head Hanik Humaida, during the observation period, Mount Merapi also experienced 37 earthquakes with an amplitude of 3–8 mm for 20–121 seconds and a single shallow volcanic earthquake with an amplitude of 38 mm for 13 seconds.

On Wednesday morning, BPPTKG also reported white smoke emanating from Mount Merapi, reaching a height of 25–50 meters above the summit.
Between Monday midnight and Tuesday midnight, Mount Merapi released lava 13 times with a maximum distance of two thousand meters to the west, the agency said.
Based on visual observations of Mount Merapi's activities from 12 to 18 November, 2021, BPPTKG said no significant morphological changes were observed in the southwest dome and the central dome of the volcano.
Merapi's southwest lava dome has a capacity of 1,610 thousand cu m and the central dome of 2,927 thousand cu m, it added.

So far, BPPTKG has maintained the status of Mount Merapi at Level III or standby.
The recent emission of lava and hot clouds is expected to impact Merapi's south-southwest sector, which encompasses Sungai Kuning, Boyong, Bedog, Krasak, Bebeng, and Putih areas, the agency informed.
In case of an eruption, volcanic materials from Mount Merapi are forecast to reach areas within a radius of three kilometers from the top of the mountain, it added.
