"We continue to accelerate vaccinations in all districts and cities, especially regions with large vaccination targets," Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) at the Aceh Health Office Iman Murahman stated in Banda Aceh, Wednesday.
According to data from the Committee for COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery (KPC PEN) of Aceh, the province is targeting to vaccinate as many as 4,028,891 residents. Of the target, the first dose vaccination recipients have reached 1,492,919 people, or 37.1 percent, while those fully vaccinated totalled 807,152 people, or 20 percent.
Meanwhile, 31,166 health workers had received the booster or third dose of vaccine.
Murahman affirmed that in Aceh, third dose of vaccination was still specially provided for health workers and not yet for the general public.
"Vaccination coverage in Aceh, especially for the first dose, had surpassed 37 percent, and we are optimistic that by December 2021, our vaccination coverage would surpass 50 percent," he remarked.
He asserted that Aceh's vaccination coverage is still far from its national target of 70 percent by the end of 2021. Hence, the province continues to accelerate vaccination, especially since the total vaccine doses that Aceh must administer reaches eight million.
"Meanwhile, the vaccine dosages that we have injected (so far) reaches only 2.3 million," he added.
In a bid to boost immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government had launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021.
According to data provided by the Health Ministry, as of November 24, 2021, nearly 136,447,629 citizens have received their first COVID-19 shot, while 91,617,127 have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
