Jakarta (ANTARA) - The overall audit of TransJakarta will involve the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) after some TransJakarta buses were involved in a series of traffic accidents, the Board of Patron of Jakarta-owned enterprise (BP BUMD) stated.

"A thorough audit will be conducted in terms of the operational safety. During the auditing process, TransJakarta will cooperate with KNKT," Acting Head of Jakarta's BP BUMD Riyadi stated here on Friday.

The in-detail audit of operational safety will inspect the TransJakarta fleet, crew, and bus driver handling the bus, he explained.

According to Riyadi, KNKT is a committee that has competence in assessing transportation safety.

Meanwhile, regarding the board reshuffle, Riyadi did not comment much on the matter, as the board still focuses on the plan of thorough auditing.

"The operational safety will be checked and audited first. (Regarding the board reshuffle), we do not know yet, as we cannot blame anyone," he remarked.

Riyadi noted that the board had yet to figure out whether the TransJakarta accidents were caused due to technical or human errors.

During the 40-day period, five traffic accidents that involved TransJakarta buses were reported.

One of the accidents that became a matter of public concern was the bus collision in Cawang, East Jakarta, in which two people, the driver and a passenger were killed.

Moreover, a TransJakarta bus collided with a police post in front of the Cililitan wholesale center (PGC) on Thursday, Dec 2, while the most recent accident of the TransJakarta bus took place on Friday, Dec 3, in front of Ratu Plaza on Sudirman Street, Senayan.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Police's head of traffic accidents, Commissioner Eko Setio Budi, noted that no fatalities were reported in the TransJakarta accident on Sudirman Street.

"The driver lacked concentration while driving, so the bus went off control," Budi told ANTARA. He added that the bus separator was damaged in the incident.
