We have pushed TransJakarta management to perform internal evaluation and take concrete improvement measures as we are waiting for their evaluation results and proposed measuresJakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, has urged the operator of Jakarta's bus rapid transit system, TransJakarta, to conduct an internal evaluation and take concrete improvement measures following two accidents involving TransJakarta buses last week.
"We have pushed TransJakarta management to perform internal evaluation and take concrete improvement measures as we are waiting for their evaluation results and proposed measures. These accidents indeed have attracted wide public interest," Patria told the press at Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Monday.

There is a pressing need for an evaluation despite an annual audit being performed at all government institutions and provincial-owned companies in Jakarta, which include TransJakarta, he observed.
"Even with a perfect safety record, an evaluation audit must be performed, and these accidents have reiterated the necessity of an audit," he said.
The deputy governor pointed to the need for evaluating the shift allocation of TransJakarta bus drivers, saying they face a high risk of fatigue as they are required to drive buses in a straight and narrow lane with a high barrier wall on both sides for hours.

"We are pushing the TransJakarta management for evaluating the shift division of bus drivers, particularly drivers who are allocated the first shift starting at 3 a.m. when they might easily fall asleep," Patria informed.
Last Monday, a TransJakarta bus operated by Bianglala Metropolitan had rammed into another TransJakarta bus that had stopped to disembark passengers at a bus stop in Cawang, East Jakarta. Three people, including the driver of the first bus and two passengers, were killed in the accident and more than 30 passengers were injured.
