Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina (Persero) is aiming for 17-percent new and renewable energy (NRE) use by 2030 as part of its long-term business plan, or RJPP.

“To achieve this goal, the company has launched eight NRE initiatives. Firstly, it will increase the capacity of its geothermal power plants from 672MW in 2020 to 1128MW by 2026. It will also look to increase green hydrogen usage in Indonesia, using electricity from Pertamina’s geothermal field with a total potential of 8,600kg of hydrogen per day,” president director and CEO of PT Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, informed in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Other initiatives include participating in a joint-venture Indonesian battery company, constructing a methanol plant for gasification, building an environmentally friendly refinery, increasing clean energy capacity, implementing a circular carbon economy, and developing NRE through the production of dimethyl ether and by increasing the capacity of power plants, Widyawati said.

Pertamina also supports a legislation that is currently being prepared by the House of Representatives and the government that aims to accelerate the use of NRE in Indonesia, she added.

“Pertamina has a strong commitment to the development of NRE. In the RJPP, Pertamina has set an NRE target that will reach 17 percent by 2030. With these eight initiatives, we believe that we can reach this target,” she affirmed.

Strong Governance

In terms of governance, the company’s initiatives include developing a management system for reporting violations, strengthening collaboration in handling complaints with law enforcement agencies, and implementing employee due diligence through a track record system, Widyawati revealed.

Pertamina is also aiming to further improve its Good Corporate Governance score, which stood at 92.85 percent in 2020, and achieve 100-percent compliance in reporting asset obligations, she said.

The company will also seek to follow the government’s mandate to reach more people through public advocacy, she added.

“To do this, Pertamina is coordinating with law enforcement agencies such as the Corruption Eradication Commission, the Indonesian National Police, the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces,” Widyawati said.

Meanwhile, all board of directors and board of commissioners at the company have signed the New Pertamina Clean Charter, she added.

The New Pertamina Clean Charter outlines the need to manage the company professionally, avoid conflicts of interest, adopt a zero-tolerance policy on bribery, uphold trust and integrity, and adhere to the principles of good corporate governance, she said.

“The New Pertamina Clean Charter is expected to become a new culture and set of values for Pertamina’s officers and workers,” Widyawati remarked.
