Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria affirmed that vaccination for children in the age group of six to 11 years plays a crucial role in thwarting the spread of COVID-19.

Patria noted in South Jakarta on Wednesday that the implementation of Public Activity Restriction (PPKM) Level 1 in Jakarta should be followed by increasing health protocol implementation among people to prevent the surfacing of new clusters.

According to the deputy governor, child vaccinations that began on Tuesday should be supported by parents to expedite the vaccine distribution process.

"With this, we could reduce the rate of COVID-19 infections. Of course, at the end, we could reduce the number of deaths due to the spread of the coronavirus," he affirmed.

Vaccination conducted for children in the age group of six to 11 years is part of the government's efforts to boost antibody formation among members of the populace.

This is crucial on account of a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases involving children in several countries where the Omicron variant has emerged.
