This demonstrates that among members of the public, the Indonesian citizens, prosperity remains a serious problem.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - More than 50 percent of the complaints received by the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) concern rights over prosperity, Deputy Chairman of Komnas HAM Amiruddin Al Rahab stated.

"This demonstrates that among members of the public, the Indonesian citizens, prosperity remains a serious problem," he said during an event broadcast on Komnas HAM Public Relations' YouTube channel here on Tuesday.

According to Al Rahab, problems concerning prosperity are not just limited to the issues of unemployment, economical gap, and poverty but also to the problem of land conflict that had become one of the crucial issues in Indonesia.

"These land conflict problems in the end relate to rights over prosperity," he elaborated.

This is despite the fact that Indonesia is currently striving to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The achievement of these goals could help in realizing prosperity for the Indonesian citizens.

The deputy chairman noted that in addition to rights over prosperity, the second most frequent complaint received by Komnas HAM revolved around the issue of justice.

To this end, in order to realize a nation that is prosperous and free from justice issues, Al Rahab deemed it important for Komnas HAM to be maximally involved in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia.

"Collaboration between Bappenas (National Development Planning Agency) and Komnas HAM in an attempt to achieve these SDGs goals will certainly be very strategic in the future," he affirmed.

During the event, Al Rahab also called for the expansion of Komnas HAM's role to maximize Indonesia's achievement to realize SDGs.

"Why is that? This is because almost all of these 17 Sustainable Development Goals have a very strong relation with human rights," he explained.
