COVID-19 mitigation requires utilizing a work instrument that integrates the SDG framework and human rights principleJakarta (ANTARA) - Assessment and research commissioner at the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Sandrayati Moniaga, has urged the government to integrate the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) framework with COVID-19 mitigation efforts.
"COVID-19 mitigation requires utilizing a work instrument that integrates the SDG framework and human rights' principle," she noted at a Komnas HAM webinar that was streamed on YouTube here on Wednesday.
To achieve this end, Komnas HAM has advised the government to reform the social protection program based on life cycle and human rights' norms, principles, and standards, she informed.
In addition, Komnas HAM has called for fixing health management in a sustainable manner, she said.
One of the methods is ensuring the availability and spread of medical and health workers, medical devices, vaccines, and protection of the Right to Live for health workers, she added.
Currently, the government is very focused on handling the COVID-19 pandemic, Moniaga said.
However, people have high hopes that health services for other diseases and medical issues would still be provided, she added.
"We do not want the people to severely suffer from other diseases after the COVID-19 pandemic is over," she stressed.
To support the government in integrating the SDGs and the human rights principle in COVID-19 handling, she recommended that the Komnas HAM formulate a more comprehensive work instrument.
She also asked the commission to utilize this work instrument to ensure that COVID-19 pandemic handling management aligns with the agenda of SDGs and human rights.
"The many overlaps between Komnas HAM with SDGs could be an argument to expand Komnas HAM's role in the SDG program," she affirmed.
Earlier, Komnas HAM's deputy chairman, Amiruddin Al Rahab, had called for the expansion of the commission's role to maximize Indonesia's efforts to realize SDGs.
