Digitalization is crucial for the financial sector
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government raised three issues pertaining to digitization in the G20 Presidency on account of the importance of transition to the digital space amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Digitalization is crucial for the financial sector. Many people currently do not have a bank account or do not get complete banking services and facilities. Hence, digital banks and digital currencies are very crucial," Communications and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate noted in a press release here on Thursday.

At the Digital Economy Working Group Forum, the government brought up three other priority issues, including connectivity and the post-pandemic situation, increasing digital capabilities and digital literacy, cross-country data flow and free data flow with trust.

The discussion on digital issues aims to facilitate the transition of community activities to the digital space, so that the community can be served properly.

As the coordinator and medium of communication for the G20, the ministry assessed that the implementation and substance of the discussion during the international forum was a success.

"We expect the forum to be implemented well. Based on the previous event, Indonesia will strive to overcome the shortcomings that existed before," according to the minister.

Based on the substance of the discussion, specifically the Finance Track and the Sherpa Track, the minister summarized three main topics: an inclusive global health architecture, digital transformation and economic transformation, and energy transition.

The design of an inclusive global health system aims to strengthen and restructure post-pandemic global health system.

The discussion on digital transformation and economic transformation aims to optimize the use of inclusive digital technology by encouraging digitalization in various sectors, including the economy.

In the meantime, the forum will also discuss expanding access to technology towards the use of clean and affordable energy, with sustainable financing.

The Finance Track and Sherpa Track forums at the G20 forum will comprise 19 working group activities and 12 engagement group activities. In total, 165 meetings will be held in 19 cities in Indonesia during the G20 event.
