Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor Anies Baswedan has asked Jakartans not to go to venues that have not set up the PeduliLindungi application to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19 during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

"Venues that do not have PeduliLindungi are risky," Baswedan cautioned while leading the 2021 Lilin Jaya Operation morning routine at the Jakarta Police Headquarters on Thursday.

He asked people not to go to places or events that are not using the PeduliLindungi application and report such places or organizers of the events as a form of shared responsibility.

"So, we can remind them and give sanctions," he added.

Baswedan also called for stricter enforcement of the health protocols during the Christmas and New Year holidays through the optimization of the PeduliLindungi app.

"Relating to the discipline and compliance of health protocols, we are aware of the experiences from the almost two-year-old pandemic. The key is being disciplined," the governor remarked.

During various activities or events, the PeduliLindungi application is expected to detect people who have not been vaccinated or who have been exposed to COVID-19, he noted.

"Therefore, we advise all people and organizers of events and activities, starting from the culinary sector, tourism, to religious activities, to ensure the availability of PeduliLindungi's scanning facility," Baswedan pointed out.

The governor said that his team is ready to fully support the Lilin Jaya Operation to provide a sense of comfort and safety during the upcoming holiday period.

Other than tackling the pandemic, he highlighted, the next challenge is extreme weather triggered by the La Nina phenomenon, which could increase the chance of extreme rainfall over a short duration. According to Baswedan, such rainfall can lead to the formation of stagnant pools of water.

"Relating to the anticipation of the rainy season and La Nina, the condition is still good. Let's hope the rain intensity will not be extreme in January and February, so we can get through this," he said.

In case there are unwanted incidents, Baswedan said his team will be ready to collaborate with all parties.
