I will travel around to meet with governors and regional governments to discuss policies concerning eco-friendly economic activities.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Wimboh Santoso, has said that he will meet with regional heads across Indonesia to discuss green economy and policies.

"I will travel around to meet with governors and regional governments to discuss policies concerning eco-friendly economic activities," he said at the 'Millennials Challenge in Obtaining Green Economy Financing Access Opportunities' webinar here on Tuesday.

"Without the aid of regional governments, policies of the central government will not provide an optimal effect," he affirmed.

He said he expects that the central government's green economy policies, such as zero-percent electric vehicle tax, and OJK's plan to build a green taxonomy to be executed in all Indonesian regions.

According to Santoso, regional heads could also create policies to encourage eco-friendly economic activities, such as granting tax incentives for products packaged with eco-friendly materials.

Regional and central governments should also synergize in carrying out their green economy policies, he said. He cited the example of a policy concerning electric vehicles that are ready to be used by government officials.

"But, the production does not seem to be ready yet. This is the job of the central government in Jakarta to ensure that there will be no gap between supply and demand," he added.

He further said he expects regional governments in Indonesia to emulate other countries where regional governments have forbidden the entry of non-electric vehicles that are not eco-friendly into their territories.

The government has continued to push sustainable economic activities to realize its commitment within the Paris Agreement to cut carbon emission to 29 percent through its own efforts by 2030 and 41 percent with international aid, he noted.

In addition to synergizing with private entrepreneurs and regional heads, the Indonesian government could discuss the green economy with the international world through the G20 Presidency, Santoso said.

"The President and the entire ministries should focus on how to make the green and digital economy a primary topic within Indonesia's G20 Presidency," he added.
