The potential of domination over data management should be our collective consideration wherein the participation of digital economy actors and even the nation may be restricted.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Green economy transition should be supported with inclusive data storage and computation system, official from the National Development Planning (PPN) Ministry and National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Leonardo A. A. Teguh Sambodo said.

"This is very relevant since development of a green economy focuses on how utilization of resources not only belongs to the current generation but also the future generation," he noted in a statement here on Tuesday.

Sambodo believes that while not everybody could receive equal access, fair accessibility based on the roles and functions of actors involved in data development could be taken into account and fought for.

Digital economy could develop through monetization of gathered data and could be used to expand the market, introduce new products and transaction methods, and broaden interaction between producers and consumers.

However, data ownership and management tend to be monopolized by several entities, he highlighted.

Data monetization became unavoidable, but it could nonetheless be managed, so that it aligns with the public's interests, he remarked.

"The potential of domination over data management should be our collective consideration wherein the participation of digital economy actors and even the nation may be restricted," Sambodo affirmed.

"To this end, it is our job to discuss the best solution for how to manage data in a better way and manage access in an inclusive manner," he remarked.

The solution that should be thought out from the start is the mitigation of potential conflicts concerning the nature of data as personal or public property, he opined.

"The people should certainly be empowered, so that they have the capacity as a data manager and producer as well as participate in preserving data accountability," he remarked.

Green economy transition, developed through the digital technology, has the potential to address the root cause of the current global crisis, including climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.

For instance, the use of drone to gather data in the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) projects would facilitate disaster risk mapping in Maldives.

In Peru, spatial data connected with cloud computing is used to identify the forest management improvement strategy that encompasses integration of the interests of indigenous groups, the government, and the business world.

To this end, the utilization of technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data science in the environment sector, should continue to be developed, Sambodo affirmed.

However, this should also be complemented with the knowledge in system and interaction development, so that the produced digital innovations could still provide balanced solutions to handle economic and environmental challenges, he stated.
