Jambi (ANTARA) - Jambi Governor Al Haris has instructed district heads and mayors in the province to scale up COVID-19 vaccinations in a bid to support national vaccination achievement.

"It is hoped that the COVID-19 task force in the regions is not careless even though Jambi's COVID-19 cases are currently declining. I urge district heads and mayors, as well as the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), not to be careless, especially in areas where the vaccination achievement has not reached 70 percent," he said here on Wednesday.

Haris also asked the COVID-19 task force to make the most of the school break to optimize vaccinations for children aged 6–11 years.

He also took note of the low vaccination coverage among the elderly.

As of December 27, 2021, Jambi province's COVID-19 vaccination coverage has reached 74.54 percent. Of the 2,686,193 targeted recipients in the province, 2,002,361 have received the first dose, he said.

Meanwhile, second dose vaccinations have reached 53.43 percent or covered 1,435,364 people, he noted.

"Let us take advantage of this school holiday break to maximize the administration of vaccines for children aged 6–11 years, while for the elderly, there are still many that have not been vaccinated. If the vaccination process for all elements can run well, then the vaccination target will be achieved by itself," the governor noted.

He also reminded the public to keep complying with the health protocols, especially wearing masks and avoiding crowds.

The Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021, in a bid to boost immunity against COVID-19.

According to data provided by the Health Ministry, as of December 29, 2021, nearly 159,269,210 citizens have received their first COVID-19 shot, while 112,595,665 have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
