Jakarta (ANTARA) - Rachmat Kaimuddin, former CEO of Bukalapak, one of the most renowned e-commerce companies in Indonesia, officially joined the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) as Technology & Sustainability Development Special Advisor.

Through an online press conference here on Monday, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who has known Kaimuddin since long, noted that his recruitment had been discussed for several months.

Kaimuddin will deliver his input and report directly to the minister, he stated.

The former CEO's presence is a form of the government's commitment to providing sustainability and driving major transformation, primarily in Indonesia's technology and development sector in future.

"The experience that Mr. Rachmat possesses as a leader in various industries and sectors, including in technology and sustainable development, becomes an important point that makes him suitable for this new position," Pandjaitan affirmed.

Before assuming his new position under Pandjaitan's leadership, Kaimuddin managed to make his former company the first unicorn to ever step into the Indonesia's Stock Exchange (BEI).

Prior to this, he secured his Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, and Master of Business Administration from Standford University, California, the United States.

He completed his high school education in Taruna Nusantara, Magelang, Central Java.

According to Pandjaitan, this solid educational background and work experience in the key sectors that he was involved in made Kaimuddin a key figure.

"I expect Mr Rachmat to immediately bring out his ideas to improve us in future," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Kaimuddin felt honored to be invited to join in helping the nation.

"This is something that I have always imagined as a child, working for the nation. I hope that I would be able to work well and contribute through my energy and mind for the good of all of us," he affirmed.
