The target is 184 thousand healthcare workers, TNI and Polri personnelBandung, W Java (ANTARA) - The COVID-19 booster vaccine program in West Java is targeting 184 thousand healthcare workers, Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri) personnel, a spokesperson informed in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday.
"The target is 184 thousand healthcare workers, TNI and Polri personnel," chief of the West Java Accelerated COVID-19 Vaccination Division, Dedi Supandi, said.
The booster vaccine is being given to certain people and not to the general public like the first and second vaccine doses, he added.
West Java has started providing the third or booster dose earlier than the central government's schedule, he noted. Booster vaccines were administered to recipients at the end of last year, he said.
This is because vaccine stocks in several provinces, including West Java, will expire in late January and February 2022, he informed.
"After we secured a permit from the central government, we began administering the booster vaccine dose on December 27, 2021," he said.
The province will continue with the first and second rounds of vaccination this year and vaccinate children aged 6–12 years against the coronavirus, he added.
By late December 2021, the first dose coverage in West Java had reached 76.46 percent and the second dose coverage stood at 53.68 percent, he noted.
Meanwhile, the first and second vaccine dose coverage among the elderly had reached 73 percent and 42 percent, respectively, he said.
"The coverage of the newly-launched vaccinations for children has reached 15.64 percent," he added.
