With structured assistance, training, and also coaching, MSME products by people with disabilities will be able to compete with other MSMEs
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises held a micro-scale enterprise vocational training for 30 people with disabilities in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

The ministry is committed to assisting MSME players to compete in domestic and global markets, including those run by people with disabilities.

"With structured assistance, training, and also coaching, MSME products by people with disabilities will be able to compete with other MSMEs," Deputy for Micro Enterprise at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Eddy Satriya stated while opening the vocational training as per a press statement here on Wednesday.

According to Satriya, people with disabilities are still viewed as being a marginalized group.

The deputy noted that people with disabilities, in fact, had potential that can be developed by being given space and opportunities to improve their capacity through training and self-development.

Satriya expressed optimism that people with disabilities would be able to develop in terms of expertise in various types of businesses.

"This is an opportunity for us to demonstrate that people with disabilities are not to be pitied upon but rather be given an opportunity, so that they can do better and become an integrated part of the Indonesian economy, especially MSMEs," he remarked.

Satriya drew attention to several renowned people with disabilities that had enthralled the world with their works. To this end, he is upbeat that disabled people would remain optimistic that their works or products would be able to compete.

"We are optimistic that in five years, they would be able to go to the next level. Whatever the business is, we hope it will get bigger and hopefully not be closed," he stated.

In 2022, the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises is targeting to provide vocational training to 1,690 micro-enterprises to hone the technical skills of human resources to manage businesses in seven priority sectors: culinary, fashion, creative economy, agriculture/plantation, fisheries/animal husbandry, home decor, and tourism.
