Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has urged the audit institutions of G20 member countries to participate in efforts towards achieving economic recovery and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He made the appeal during the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) 20 Technical Meeting.

"The government's cooperation with audit institutions is very important," he noted in an official statement issued on Thursday.

"For the first time in G20's history, the Supreme Audit Institutions from various G20 countries are meeting and discussing how the theme 'Recover Stronger' could be translated to various policies that push the strategic vision forward," he said.

G2O countries' audit institutions must improve the management of the public sector after the COVID-19 pandemic to realize the SDG targets, he added.

"As we all understand, the implementation of SDGs agenda in 2030 has become more urgent," Hartarto remarked.

"Hence, we need to maintain focus to avoid the long-term and multi-dimensional impact of the pandemic," he stressed.

As the head of Indonesia's Sherpa Track and COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Committee, he also pushed the SAI20 to produce at least three important agreements or consensuses this year.

First, the SAI20 is expected to explore the possibility of strategies and to conduct exchange in audit mechanism best practices throughout the crisis, which could expedite recovery policy by prioritizing cautiousness, the minister said.

Then, G20 nations' audit institutions are also expected to provide concrete and applicable policy recommendations, he added.

This could be done by ensuring that every finance mobilization for prevention and response of any crisis in the future could tolerate risk, he said.

Last, the SAI20 should strive to create an environment that allows for non-finance information transparency, such as policies that are infused with the ESG (Environmental, Sustainability, and Governance) principle, in supporting green energy transition, he added.

"I expect that this SAI20 forum would become a platform for a productive knowledge exchange, and this has become a new history in the G20," the minister remarked.
