Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has said that he expects Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) to continue to be a strategic partner for the Indonesian government in the development and improvement of the people's economy.

He made the statement while attending the inauguration of Nahdlatul Ulama's executive board (PBNU) for 2022–2027 and the commemoration of the organization's 96th anniversary at the Dome Balikpapan, a sport and convention center in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Monday.

"Welcoming a century of its birth, we need to be grateful to Allah SWT for allowing NU to continue to support the struggle of the Indonesian nation to this day. We need to be grateful for God's gift by maintaining NU's commitment to continue to be a strategic partner of the government and overseeing efforts to create a just and prosperous Indonesia," Amin said.

The Vice President also asked NU to strengthen its role in efforts to help the nation overcome the challenges it faces, which are becoming increasingly difficult.

"NU must continue to be the guardian of ukhuwah Islamiyah, ukhuwah wathaniyah, and ukhuwah insaniyah in our beloved country," he said.

The Vice President expressed the hope that NU will continue to promote and strengthen the quality of human resources by building nobility of character as well as empowering the people's economy.

He also urged NU to remain a "source of truth" for the people.

"In the midst of the rapid spread of information, NU must continue to be a source of truth and a messenger of peace for all Indonesians," he remarked.

Amin attended the event wearing a gray suit, white turban, a black skullcap, and a sarong with blue motifs.

The event was also attended by President Joko Widodo, the 10th and 12th vice president Jusuf Kalla, Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, House Speaker Puan Maharani, and Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
