Like it or not, learning activities (at schools) must be limited for the sake of students' health because the number of (COVID-19) cases continues to increaseYogyakarta (ANTARA) - The government of Yogyakarta city has decided to implement offline or face-to-face learning at 50 percent capacity as an anticipatory measure amid the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the city.
"Starting from today, face-to-face learning will be implemented at 50 percent capacity. Thus, schools are rearranging the face-to-face learning process as the number of (COVID-19) cases is increasing," Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi informed here on Wednesday.
According to Poerwadi, the implementation of face-to-face learning will be evaluated dynamically by tracing the development of COVID-19 cases in Yogyakarta city.
Since the third week of January, Yogyakarta has continued to record an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, he noted. On Wednesday (January 2, 2022), the city recorded 13 new cases, taking the number of active cases to 113, he said.
With the implementation of face-to-face learning at 50 percent capacity, teaching and learning activities will be carried out under a hybrid system, that is, a combination of online and offline learning, he explained.

"Like it or not, learning activities (at schools) must be limited for the sake of students' health because the number of (COVID-19) cases continues to increase," he remarked.
Even though face-to-face learning will be implemented at limited capacity again, schools, parents, and students must keep complying with the health protocols, he said.
"I think schools have imposed strict health protocols during learning activities. However, parents' control when children are at home is essential," he added.

He appealed to parents to supervise their children and ensure they follow the health protocols during activities outside school.
Even though face-to-face learning is being implemented at limited capacity, he affirmed that COVID-19 testing of students will continue to be carried out.
"The new finding is 10 students in a school contracted COVID-19. The school has a large number of students, and the school itself is quite big," he informed.
The deputy mayor also reminded universities in the city that have implemented offline classes to continue imposing the health protocols.
