The BOR of Wisma Atlet Kemayoran (hospital) is 63 percent, while the limit set by WHO is 60 percent
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The bed occupancy rate (BOR) in Wisma Atlet COVID-19 Emergency Hospital, Kemayoran, Jakarta, has reached 63 percent, or slightly higher than the standard limit of the WHO, a representative from the hospital stated.

"The BOR of Wisma Atlet Kemayoran (hospital) is 63 percent, while the limit set by WHO is 60 percent," Public relations coordinator of the Wisma Atlet COVID-19 Emergency Hospital Colonel Dr Mintoro Sumego stated when contacted here on Thursday.

According to the hospital data, as of Thursday, the number of inpatients at Wisma Atlet Kemayoran had reached 5,174 people. An additional 204 inpatients were recorded as compared to 4,970 on Wednesday.

Since Wednesday, the hospital has utilized four towers -- 4, 5, 6, and 7-- to treat COVID-19 patients due to the increasing number of people in need of treatment.

Sumego had noted earlier last month that if the four towers were utilized, the hospital would have 8,173 beds available to treat patients.

The increase in the number of COVID-19 inpatients at the Wisma Atlet COVID-19 Emergency Hospital was caused by the spread of the new variant of COVID-19, Omicron.

Data released by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force on Thursday showed the addition of 27,197 new patients in the last 24 hours.

Based on the data, Jakarta became the province to have reported the most number of cases, reaching 10,117 new patients.

Of the total new patients nationwide, 26,467 new patients were categorized as having contracted the virus from local transmission, while 730 others had a history of traveling abroad.

Apart from new patients, the task force also recorded 5,993 people that had made a recovery and 38 deaths in the last 24 hours ended Thursday.

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia in March 2020. According to data provided by the task force, as of February 3, 2022, at least 4,414,483 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country, while 4,154,797 people have recovered, and 144,411 people have succumbed to the virus.

The Ministry of Health detected the first case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Indonesia on December 15, 2021.
