The figure is still far from ideal and needs to be increasedJakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Jaleswari Pramodhawardani assessed that the labor market absorption was still low for people with disabilities while pressing for taking requisite steps to increase it.
While quoting the 2022 Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, Pramodhawardani noted that 17 million people with disabilities belonged to the working age, though only 7.6 million of them were employed.
"The figure is still far from ideal and needs to be increased," the deputy noted at the signing of the cooperation agreement between the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the National Disabilities Commission (KND), as stated in a press release received here on Wednesday.

Pramodhawardani deemed it necessary to have a service unit in place that can respond to various challenges in the world of work for people with disabilities, especially in the formal sector.
The deputy confirmed to the receipt of several reports regarding limitations in the job requirements for people with disabilities, such as the types and degrees of disability.
On that occasion, Pramodhawardani lauded the ministries, agencies, and private companies that had helped expedite the absorption of workers with disabilities.

The deputy cited as an example the formal sector in which the number of people with disabilities accepted as state civil apparatuses (ASN) had continued to increase every year. The same trend was also observed in the informal sector, she added.
"Based on the 2019 National Civil Service Agency's (BKN's) data, 2,149 people with disabilities work in various central and regional agencies. Meanwhile, in the informal sector, as of June 2021, some 0.84 percent of the workforce in 553 companies are people with disabilities, which is equivalent to 4,554 people," she pointed out.
Pramodhawardani expressed optimism that the signing of a joint commitment between the ILO and KND would facilitate positive synergy in supervising policy suggestions and recommendations regarding the mapping of workers with disabilities.
