Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - On account of Level 3 activities restriction enforcement (PPKM), the Bandung City Police have resumed the odd-even traffic rule at the city's five toll gates to restrict the entry of private vehicles.

"The odd-even traffic rule will be enforced at Pasteur, Pasirkoja, Kopo, Muhammad Toha, and Buahbatu tollgates," Bandung Traffic Police chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ariek Indra Sentanu, announced here on Friday.

The police chief said that the odd-even policy will be enacted on Fridays (from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time) and on Saturdays and Sundays (from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.) every week.

"We have assigned officers on-duty to work in two shifts for Saturday and Sunday. The first shift will be from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., and the second shift will start from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.," Sentanu added.

Police officers stationed at tollgates will screen all incoming vehicles, and vehicles whose plate numbers do not conform with the odd-even rule will not be allowed to enter the city, he said.

The municipal police have prepared equipment such as water barriers, traffic cones, and tents at every checkpoint for the odd-even rule enforcement, the police chief added.

"For the odd-even rule enforcement, we will involve officers from the local transportation office, the municipal police, and the military," Sentanu said.

The odd-even traffic rule enforcement at entry tollgates to Bandung city, which is a part of the Greater Bandung area where Level 3 PPKM has been imposed, is expected to control public mobility during the COVID-19 Omicron surge in the region, he added.

According to data from the city's COVID-19 Task Force, a total of 3,372 COVID-19 active cases have been recorded in Bandung, with daily cases reaching 200–700, he added.
