If not immediately resolved, then issues in transmigration zones would become a problem and (cause) disputes. We will coordinate with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing to solve the problems
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Ministry has collaborated with the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry to help address infrastructure-related matters in transmigration regions.

"If not immediately resolved, then issues in transmigration zones would become a problem and (cause) disputes. We will coordinate with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing to solve the problems," Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Minister Abdul Halim Iskandar stated here on Friday.

After the problems are solved, Iskandar affirmed that the transmigration zones will grow into strategic economic centers for the adjoining areas.

According to the minister, the disputes of land, village forests, and transmigration areas often take a hostile turn from time to time.

Hence, Iskandar highlighted the need for continuing intensive coordination and intervention across ministries and institutions as well as called for the local governments' involvement, including in transmigration areas planning on the arrangement of population distribution.

Iskandar remarked that the successful implementation of the transmigration region revitalization policy could not be determined solely by the ministry.

"On October 22, 2021, a joint agreement has been signed by ministries and institutions regarding (assisting) transmigration affairs. This agreement will expand the impact of the transmigration program," he remarked during an evaluation meeting for the 2021 transmigration zone placements and the plan for 2022.

The meeting was targeted to assess the realization of transmigration placements in 2021, thereby providing inputs to the program's plan in 2022.

Until now, the transmigration placement program has been able to open isolated areas by successfully building 5,706 residential units in 152 transmigration zones.

Out of the 152 zones, some 1,629 definitive villages were developed, 564 sub-district capitals were established, while 118 areas supporting the district capitals and two provincial capitals were formed.
