Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has submitted its initial fact-finding report on the Wadas case to Central Java Police.

Komnas HAM's commissioners met Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Ahmad Luthfi to discuss the Wadas case, Komnas HAM commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara informed in a statement released here on Monday.

During the meeting, the human rights body and the police agreed to establish more intensive coordination to prevent similar incidents from happening and to maintain a conducive situation in Wadas Village, he said.

"Komnas HAM will continue to monitor every process of resolution to problems existing in Wadas," he added.

He said that the human rights body made three recommendations in the case. It sought sanctions on police officers proven guilty of using violence, he informed.

It asked police to not go by information based on field reportage and disseminated on social media as a hoax, he said. It also asked police to return Wadas villagers' belongings seized by officials earlier, he added.

The Central Java Police chief immediately ordered officials to return the belongings to their owners, Hapsara said.

Luthfi also ordered the police's internal body, the profession and security (Propam) division to start an investigation and impose sanctions on those found guilty of using violence against villagers.

Recently, several hundred police and military officers were deployed in Wadas Village to guard a land measurement process for an andesite rock mine, which was to supply rocks for the construction of Bener dam in Purworejo District, Central Java.

During the deployment, police arrested at least 60 villagers, but released them after videos on the arrests went viral on social media.

Many Wadas villagers have rejected andesite rock mining activities in the village.
