Sangihe, North Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Flash floods triggered by incessant and heavy rainfall submerged three kampongs on Siau Islands, Siau Tagulandang Biaro District, North Sulawesi Province, on Monday.

"The rain that has fallen since Monday morning has caused flash floods, submerging three kampongs on Siau Island," Spokesperson for the Siau Tagulandang Biaro district administration Gandawari Mulalinda said here on Monday.

The three areas affected by flooding were Langhaeng and Batusenggo in South West Siau Sub-district and Peling Sawang in East Siau Sub-district, he informed.

"The district government, through the relevant agencies, is currently at the disaster site helping victims as well as collecting data on the damage caused by the flash floods," he said.

He appealed to residents in Siau Tagulandang Biaro to remain vigilant for further natural disasters.

"People are asked to increase their vigilance because of the extreme weather prevailing in Siau Tagulandang Biaro District," he said.
