Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called for an immediate and just solution for the Myanmar people, saying they have a right to peace, prosperity, and democracy.

"We must assist in providing a fair solution for Myanmar people. It cannot be delayed any further," he said on his official Twitter account @jokowi on Wednesday.

He urged everyone to never stop fighting for the rights of the Myanmar people, as they have the right to enjoy peace, prosperity, and democracy.

The President has frequently voiced his concern over the Myanmar crisis. While meeting the Singaporean leader, he reiterated the importance of implementing the ASEAN five-point consensus for Myanmar.

Leaders of ASEAN countries had agreed to the five-point ASEAN consensus following a military takeover that deposed Myanmar President Win Myint and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.

The consensus focuses on ending the violence in Myanmar, sending humanitarian aid, holding an active dialogue between all stakeholders, sending an envoy chosen by ASEAN leaders to facilitate mediation and dialogue, as well as organizing a visit by a special ASEAN envoy to Myanmar.

According to Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, there has been no significant progress in the implementation of the consensus so far.

"We are all still very concerned about the (crisis) in Myanmar, including the lack of significant progress in the ASEAN five-point consensus imposition. All ASEAN countries expect progress in the implementation of the 5PC," she said at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat on February 17.

The consensus is necessary for ensuring Myanmar citizens enjoy stability and peace, and is also important as proof of ASEAN’s credibility, she remarked.
