Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry lauded the Police Force's decision to employ scientific crime investigation methods to seek proof in cases of sexual violence against women and children.

The Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister, I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, deemed it as an important breakthrough which would assist investigations, as well as encourage a comprehensive progress in handling violence against women and children. She delivered her statement here on Friday.

Darmawati also supported the restructuring in the force's organization, in which the Sub-Directorate for the Protection of Women and Children had become a directorate. The change was effective in all police headquarters throughout the country.

Minister Darmawati stated that current challenges, which came with the increasing cases of violence against women and children, was ensuring that victims could get justice immediately, and receive the compensation and remedies they needed.

Should this scientific-based approach be proven successful, it would provide proof of sexual violence, as well as identify its perpetrators, she opined. It would also end the stigma, accusations, and prejudices which often befall the victims.

She emphasized that proper evidence would contribute to process of recovery and rehabilitation for the victims, as well.

The minister said she believed that the breakthroughs and progress would bring significant impact to the comprehensiveness of the entire case handling process at all levels.

Let's stick to our commitment together to sincerely proffer protection for all citizens, especially women and children, from all forms of violence, especially sexual violence," she noted.
