Every year, corruption is still highlighted by the forum since a number of G20 members still have a poor corruption perception index.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chair of the 2022 G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG), Civil 20 (C20) Group, Dadang Trisasongko, has said that civilians and private sector actors have an important role in corruption eradication efforts.

"In fact, the contribution of civilians regarding anti-corruption attempts has increased. Especially, since C20 has become one of G20’s engagement groups in 2013," he remarked at the virtual opening of the 2022 G20 ACWG on Friday.

The C20 is a platform that engages more than 800 civil societies from various countries to deliver the people’s aspirations to the G20 leaders, he said.

Hence, the engagement platform offers an opportunity to anti-corruption civil movements from all over the world to push the corruption eradication agenda, he said.

Furthermore, the working group chair outlined the civil society’s important role in the G20 forum regarding the agenda.

The civil society does not only have an anti-corruption monitoring function, but it also has an active role in collaborating with the G20 members in resolving various corruption problems, he said.

“Every year, corruption is still highlighted by the forum since a number of G20 members still have a poor corruption perception index," he noted.

Although global commitment to eradicate corruption has been made every year, the financial governance of G20 members, both in public and private sectors, still needs to be improved, he added.

"Hence, the participation of civil society and private sector players is highly required to ensure that all commitments to eradicate corruption are implemented effectively," Trisasongko said.

Reinforcing public participation and providing anti-corruption education to prevent and eradicate the crime is one of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)’s main agenda as the host of the 2022 G20 ACWG, he said.

The other agendas include increasing professional empowerment to prevent money laundering, enhancing the role of auditing in tackling corruption, as well as strengthening the commitment to eradicating corruption in the renewable energy sector, he informed.
