Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Health drew attention to an improvement in the trend of COVID-19 active cases and recovery rate since early March of 2022.

"This is driven by the number of active cases that had started to fall since early March and the recovery rate that has continued to increase every day. Hopefully, we can maintain this trend, so that we can get through this pandemic together," spokesperson for COVID-19 Vaccination at the Ministry of Health Siti Nadia Tarmizi noted in a statement as quoted here on Monday.

As of March 1, 2022, Indonesia's count of active cases had reached 586,276 and declined to 475,951 on March 6, 2022. The decrease in the number of active cases is supported by the increase in the number of people having recovered from the virus, which as of March 5, 2022, was recorded at 46,669 people and increased to 49,080 people on March 6, 2022.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases had decreased, from 30,156 cases confirmed on March 5, 2022, to 24,867 new cases confirmed on March 6, 2022.

Moreover, the bed occupancy rate of isolation and intensive care rooms for COVID-19 patients in hospitals had also declined, from 31 to 29 percent.

The Indonesian government is committed to maintaining the country's health service facilities and curbing COVID-19 transmission through testing, tracing, and treatment.

"Community collaboration is expected to be realized through their willingness to participate in testing, tracing, tightening health protocols, and protecting themselves through primary and booster vaccinations," the spokesperson remarked.

As part of the government's efforts to handle COVID-19, vaccinations have also been expanded and accelerated through several new policy scenarios.

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia in March 2020. According to data from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of March 6, 2022, Indonesia had recorded a total of 5,748,725 COVID-19 cases, 5,122,602 recoveries, and 150,172 deaths.
