Jakarta (ANTARA) - Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry is currently revitalizing the Great Besakih Temple complex in Karangasem District, Bali Province, to facilitate the activities of worshipers and tourists.

"Usually, the area will be very crowded when the temple holds a big religious celebration. Hence, we are constructing two different entry and exit routes and better road arrangement for visitors’ vehicles," PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono noted in a statement received here on Monday.

However, the minister emphasized that construction in the area would not be conducted in the main building of the temple complex that is used as a worship place.

The Great Besakih Temple complex is the largest Hindu worship complex in Bali. Hence, several tourists often visit the temple on major religious days.

Thus, the large number of visitors and the unorganized arrangement of the area sometimes reduced the solemnity and comfort of the people conducting religious ceremonies.

In addition, the revitalization conducted since August 2021 also aims to protect the cultural heritage area of the temple.

The project is targeted to be completed in December 2022. Currently, the progress has reached 11.47-percent completion.

The rearrangement is conducted by the state-owned construction company PT Pembangunan Perumahan (Persero) Tbk, as the implementing contractor, and PT Ciriajasa Cipta Mandiri, managing the construction, with a budget of Rp378.4 billion.

The construction is being conducted in the Manik Mas sector and Bencingah sector of the temple complex.

Development in the Manik Mas sector comprises a 5-story parking building, 18 large kiosks, 12 small kiosks, a gathering hall, Melanting Temple, viewing tower, and access roads.

Meanwhile, establishment of the Bencingah sector includes the construction of 196 large kiosks, 162 small kiosks, a gathering hall, two cultural halls, a courtyard, and a children's playground.

The Great Besakih Temple complex has 117 temples that often hold various religious ceremonies, such as the Tawur Labuh Gentuh, Karya Ida Bhatara Turun Kabeh, and Panca Wali Krama.
