IPC TPK's new route is called China Indo Express / CIX, connecting Jakarta – Semarang – Surabaya – Qingdao – Shanghai.
The direct call of container shipping is an opportunity to boost trade in goods and services, thereby supporting Indonesia's economy, especially in terms of exports and imports, IPC TPK Commercial and Business Development Director David Sirait noted here on Monday.
"We, as (port) terminal operators, will continue to apply strategic initiatives by collaborating with shipping companies to open new routes," he affirmed.
The new China Indo Express was opened by Meratus Line, wherein the MV Meratus Sorong ship that serves the direct call to China has been anchored at Terminal 3 of the Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta on Sunday evening (March 13).
The MV Meratus Sorong ship, with its LOA of 153 meters and draught of 9.5 meters, will carry 415 TEUs of container loaded at Terminal 3 IPC TPK, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
The capacity of this ship totals 1,272 TEUs.
According to Sirait, the current global situation, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and conflicts between countries, including the container crisis, has impacted the maritime world.

However, Sirait ensured that IPC TPK continues to collaborate in realizing a network of container terminals that support the reduction of logistics costs and boost national trade.
"We laud Meratus Line's move to expand its service network through the newly opened route. This cooperation is expected to provide added value for not only the stakeholders but also the national economy," Sirait stated.
