"Water management must consider the impact of climate change. This effort must include knowledge, funding, economics, local community involvement, support from the government and other national, regional, and global institutions. A nature-based approach is needed to build better water management," Co-chairs of the G20 EDM-CSWG, Sigit Reliantoro, noted in a statement received here, Tuesday.
Reliantoro also remarked that the water problem is a global issue, starting from water availability, access to clean water, and other problems.
Climate change is contributing to an increase in water problems from water shortages to floods. In dealing with this problem, several countries have implemented water management, including sustainable water management, Reliantoro stated.
The EDM forum discussed the issue regarding Nature-Based Solutions and Ecosystem-Based Approaches for Water Management, Circular Cities, and Positive Clean Water for Sustainable Water Development.
The topic of the dialog was divided into three sessions, specifically discussing world views and experiences in water management issues and problems and their solutions.
The second session discussed national experiences and best practices in implementing policies and raising awareness in water management. The third session focused on identifying gaps and formulating solutions.
The CSWG session, which took place in parallel with the EDM dialogue, was divided into three sessions, i.e. discussing the results of a study on the economic inventory, social, and environmental impacts of sustainable recovery, including the impact of the implementation of nationally determined contributions (NDC).
The second session discusses the results of studies on ocean-based solutions to climate change through increased cooperation in science, research, and innovation, while the third session discusses the results of studies on recommendations for innovative financial frameworks towards low greenhouse gas emissions and a future of climate resilience.
On that occasion, Director General of Climate Change Control (PPI) Laksmi Dwanthi stated that the key elements and messages in the CSWG Workshop will be used in the 1st parallel session of EDM-CSWG to find similarities, needs, and other relevant elements of G20 member countries.
"At the same time also identifying elements (building blocks) for the ministerial communique draft," Dwanthi remarked.
The G20 EDM-CSWG meeting takes place in Yogyakarta on March 21-24, with three priority agendas, specifically supporting more sustainable recovery and increasing land- and sea-based actions to support environmental protection and climate change control objectives.
The final priority issue is the increased mobilization of resources to support environmental protection and climate change control objectives.
