While in Denpasar, Bali, on Wednesday, the president emphasized that having modern medical facilities for domestic and international patients is essential for Indonesia to become a developed nation.
"Indonesia is a huge, developed, and dynamic country that must possess the best facilities to serve as the (healthcare) center and allow us to admit patients from our region, Southeast Asia and the Pacific," Prabowo remarked while opening the Sanur Health Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Bali International Hospital (BIH).
The president highlighted BIH's complete and sophisticated health equipment and best services to cater to its patients optimally. "The hospital feels like a hotel, with marble floors," he noted.
On the same occasion, Prabowo praised Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin for his efforts to procure new health equipment for Indonesian hospitals, including the recently opened BIH.
"We must now train our medical experts to operate the equipment, so our people can access the best healthcare services in the nation," he remarked.
The Bali International Hospital, spanning 67 thousand square meters within the Sanur Health SEZ, is operated by Pertamina Bina Medika Indonesia Healthcare Corporation (IHC), the state-owned hospital holding company.
The international hospital is equipped with 255 beds, eight operating theatres, 38 ICU rooms, and four laboratories. It is expected to become a medical tourism destination for both domestic and international patients.
BIH has also invited four Singaporean cancer specialists—Dr. Robert Lim, Dr. Francis Chin Kuok Choon, Dr. Patricia Kho Sunn Sunn, and Dr. Tan Yew Oo—to practice medicine in Indonesia for the first time.
