We need to disseminate awareness, especially among the younger generation, on sustainable water management.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and Indonesian Limnological Society (MLI) have urged the younger generation to become more active in preserving and managing water resources to ensure sustainable water preservation.
It is important to improve literacy among the younger generation and enter into strategic cooperation with various parties that have an interest and authority in water resource management, MLI head Luki Subehi said at a webinar on Tuesday.
BRIN and MLI organized a number of activities, including a minivlog, workshop, and essay competition for the younger generation to commemorate World Water Day 2022 and to increase the younger generation's participation in water conservation efforts.
The essay competition for middle school and high school students received a positive response. Sixty essays were submitted for the competition, with 50 essays written by high school students and 10 essays by middle school students from various regions in Indonesia.
A team of judges is currently evaluating the student essays.
Meanwhile, BRIN's Earth and Maritime Research Organization head Ocky Karna Radjasa said that it is important to raise the younger generation's awareness on water resource availability and sustainability.
This can bolster their compassion and participation to take care of and protect water resources in the future.
"We need to disseminate awareness, especially among the younger generation, on sustainable water management," Radjasa underlined.
He said he expects that there will be smart and creative ideas as well as efforts from the younger generation to raise people's awareness and participation in sustainable water management.
Additionally, BRIN is supporting the emergence of models for water resources preservation and management based on local culture that prioritize environmental aspects.
A comprehensive water resources management system that involves the community will be able to resolve issues and hurdles related to water resources massively and sustainably, Radjasa said.
