When it comes to the Indonesian Marine Policy, the 12 inter-regional areas are the minimum target to be established immediatelyJakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has targeted to complete the plan of zoning 12 inter-regional sea areas (RZ KAW) by 2024.
The RZ KAW, through the Presidential Regulation, is believed to have a significant impact on investment of the marine and fisheries sectors that will bolster the national economic growth, an official of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment stated.
"When it comes to the Indonesian Marine Policy, the 12 inter-regional areas are the minimum target to be established immediately," Deputy Assistant for Coordination of Marine Space Management at the ministry Rasman Manafi stated in "Maritime Talk: Acceleration of Marine and Fisheries Development After the Issuance of the RZ KAW Presidential Regulation" here on Tuesday.
Manafi explained that the 12 inter-regional areas are the minimum target, as there are 19 in total that require a zoning plan. The determination of these zonings is deemed necessary as a reference in granting business permits.
A zoning plan must be prepared for inter-regional areas encompassing the sea, straits, and cross-provincial bays and be stated in the Presidential Regulation as stipulated in Government Regulation No. 32 of 2019 on Marine Spatial Planning.
"The minimum is 12 RZ KAWs, while the maximum is 19 RZ KAWs. We have to complete it, so that the use of (marine) space between regions can be optimal," he pointed out.
In detail, Manafi elaborated that Presidential Regulation No. 83 of 2020 stipulates the RZ KAW of Makassar Strait.
Furthermore, in early 2022, three presidential regulations have been established, number three concerning RZ KAW of the Java Sea, number four concerning RZ KAW of the Sulawesi Sea, and number five of 2022 concerning RZ KAW of Tomini Bay, Sulawesi.
Other inter-sea areas that have not been established by the Presidential Regulation are the Natuna Sea and North Natuna; Bali Sea; Banda Sea; Aru Sea; Halmahera Sea; Seram Sea; Maluku Sea; Flores Sea; Sawu Sea; Strait of Malacca; Bone Bay; Cendrawasih Bay; Sumatran Western Sea; Southern Sea of Java; Bali and Nusa Tenggara; and the North Sea of Papua.
"There is already a regional zoning plan whose utilization pattern has been determined, such as for conservation," Manafi explained.
