Some basic matters in vocational education in the country also need to become our common concern
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that several basic issues in vocational education in Indonesia should become a common concern to ensure the creation of superior human resources from vocational high school (SMK) graduates.

"Some basic matters in vocational education in the country also need to become our common concern," Amin noted in his remarks at the Vocational Training for Advanced Indonesia at the Vocational and Productivity Training Center (BPVP) in West Bandung, West Java, Wednesday.

Amin remarked that various basic problems in vocational education include industry absorption that is not in accordance with the number of SMK graduates, a curriculum that is not in accordance with the industry needs, regions do not have an industrial map and result in SMK graduates not having a program in accordance with the industrial needs, as well as the provision of facilities and infrastructure that do not align with the current industry needs.

"Hence, I believe that the existence of the Job Training Center (BLK) should be expanded. The Ministry of Manpower should also accelerate the BLK transformation program by building one central technical implementing unit (UPTP) in one province," he explained.

Amin noted that only 21 UPTP BLK were currently spread across 16 provinces. Synergy among the Ministry of Manpower, local government, and industrial sector was deemed crucial to support the realization of UPTP BLK, both in terms of quantity and quality.

The vice president is optimistic that the UPTP BLK, which had begun to transform into a Vocational and Productivity Training Center (BPVP), can be present in all provinces in Indonesia. This aims to build competitiveness in the domestic workforce and train them to become entrepreneurs.

Amin also emphasized that the transformation of BLK into BPVP should be more visible in the training program provided. The vice president stated that the training program was important for people keen to start working or building their business.

On this occasion, Amin also took the time to interact with vocational training participants and stakeholders.

He held a dialogue with one of the BPVP participants with a physical disability, Ono Syaifudin.

Syaifudin told Amin that he was a participant in the training to bake premium cakes and breads. He said the training that he received was immensely useful for his current life.

Other people with disabilities who participated in the training also received the same benefits as him, he stated.

"Praise be to God, I have been able to learn the training material," he remarked.
