The earthquake, which occurred at 7.10 p.m. local time, was centered 45 kilometers northwest of the district at a depth of 12 kilometers, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) station in Manokwari reported.
"The earthquake, which was felt (by people living) as far as Manokwari, Manokwari Selatan, and Tambrauw did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, and we call on residents to stay calm and not panic too much," BMKG station head Daniel Tandi said.

The earthquake was followed by two aftershocks, he added.
The first aftershock, which occurred at 7.45 p.m. local time, measured 4.7 in magnitude. It was centered 66 kilometers northwest of Pegunungan Arfak at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Meanwhile, the epicenter of the second aftershock, which occurred at 9.26 p.m., was located 60 kilometers northwest of the district at a depth of 4 kilometers.
"The magnitude of the two aftershocks was smaller," he informed.
