"This means that a continuous commitment and process is needed to create and continue to improve the physical and social environment of the city, which allows residents to support each other in all aspects of life and develop their best potential," Amin noted at the 2022 Summit of Healthy Indonesian Districts and Cities virtual event here on Monday.
The vice president reminded that a healthy city is not only defined by the status but by the awareness and continuous efforts to improve various aspects of the city's health. This includes residential areas, public facilities and infrastructure, healthy and independent community life, food and nutrition security, and healthy social life.

According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), 56.7 percent of Indonesian citizens lived in urban areas in 2020. This figure is expected to continue to increase to 66.6 percent by 2035.
Meanwhile, the World Bank also estimated that 220 million Indonesians will live in urban areas by 2045.
"Therefore, developing healthy cities is a must. Healthy cities do not only rely on infrastructure but also on the economic, cultural, social and humanitarian aspects," he pointed out.

The vice president highlighted that Indonesia does not want to be left behind in realizing healthy cities that are clean, comfortable, safe, and healthy in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Home Affairs since 2005.
"Especially at this time when we are heading to the transition period of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have learned about how a strong and responsive health service system must be built and how we must get accustomed to leading a clean and healthy lifestyle," he remarked.
On that occasion, Amin also noted that the development of healthy cities and districts requires multi-sectoral support, specifically from business players, academics, non-governmental organizations, and the media, or what is known as the "pentahelix" collaboration.
