Jakarta (ANTARA) - Three automotive factories are ready to unveil electrical cars in Indonesia this year, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartato stated at the 2022 Jakarta International Motor Show (IIMS) Hybrid event here on Thursday.

The first factory that had unveiled an electrical car in the nation is PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia.

In mid-March of 2022, the company unveiled the IONIQ 5 electric car officially inaugurated by President Joko Widodo.

The second factory known to had unveiled an electric car in Indonesia is PT Toyota Astra Motor (PT TAM).

On the first day of 2022, IIMS Hybrid officially introduced a battery vehicle electric (BEV) based on the Toyota Kijang Innova.

Hartarto expects that the electric Toyota Kijang Innova would be produced soon.

Meanwhile, the minister steered clear of sharing further details regarding the one last factory.

"There is one other factory that will produce it in September," he stated.

In addition, Hartarto noted that the government continues to push for accelerating the electric vehicle transition in the nation through several regulations, including President Regulation No. 55 of 2019 on Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle (KBL) for Road Transportation Acceleration Program.

This regulation stipulates several fiscal and non-fiscal incentive foundations to expedite the industrialization of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle.

Moreover, the others include Government Regulation No. 74 of 2021 on Changes over Government Regulation No. 73 on 2019 on Taxable Goods Classified as Luxury Item in the Form of Motor Vehicle Subject to Sales Luxury Tax.

This regulation provides zero-percent sales luxury tax (PPnBM) for electric vehicle that fulfills the Domestic Component Level (TKDN).

During the event, the minister also noted that state-run electric company PT PLN (Persero) had a large market share for electric vehicles.
