"This DEWG forum will be useful as a focal point to accommodate digital issues. This forum elaborates on digital transformation issues in order to create digital transformation that is inclusive, empowering, and sustainable," Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, concurrently Chairwoman of DEWG, Mira Tayyiba noted in a press release quoted on Friday.
Through the DEWG forum, Indonesia is pushing for three priority issues in digital transformation: connectivity and recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic, digital skills and literacy, and cross-country data flows.

These three issues were discussed to achieve an inclusive, empowering, and sustainable digital transformation. DEWG had become a forum to exchange information and seek common understanding of policies related to the digital economy and digital ecosystem, she noted.
"DEWG has a mandate to discuss how utilizing digital technology can encourage a strong digital economy, develop in a sustainable and inclusive manner with a safe, protected, and connected digital environment while mitigating the challenges and risks of digitalization," Tayyiba stated.
The Ministry of Communication and Informatics collaborates with partners from the industry, universities, and communities, both domestically and internationally, for this forum, including ITU, UNESCAP, UNCTAD, OECD, University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, and Padjadjaran University.
Collaboration among various parties is deemed necessary to make the proposals as the results of the discussion are in accordance with the methods and research conducted and recognized internationally, Tayyiba stated.
The decisions made at the G20 DEWG forum are not legally binding, though, have a strategic role since this forum has a wide influence in the global forum. The G20 member countries account for around 80-85 percent of the world economy.
The G20 DEWG forum was held in Indonesia for the first time. This forum was an upgrade from the Digital Economy Task Force (DETF).
Indonesia and G20 member countries proposed to upgrade DETG to DEWG at the Italian G20 Presidency to address the dynamics of increasingly strategic digital issues. This increase means that documents and contributions in the forum can be accessed and studied by every country.
The document produced by this working group will become an attachment to the G20 Leaders Declaration.
