It is the highest inflation since May 2019.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Inflation in March 2022 reached 0.66 percent month-to-month (m-o-m) as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased from 108.24 to 108.95, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).
“It is the highest inflation since May 2019. At the time, the figure was 0.68 percent," BPS head Margo Yuwono informed at a press conference here on Friday.
The main contributors to inflation in March 2022 were red chili, household fuel, gold jewelry, and cooking oil, he said.
Compared to December 2021, there was an increase of 1.2 percent in inflation in March 2022. Meanwhile, year-on-year (y-o-y), inflation reached 2.64 percent.
Out of the 90 cities whose CPI was assessed, 88 cities experienced inflation, while the rest reported deflation.
The highest inflation was recorded in Merauke district (Papua province) at 1.86 percent, and the lowest inflation in Kupang city (East Nusa Tenggara province) at 0.09 percent.

Inflation in the district was mostly caused by an increase in the prices of chili, air transportation, and raw tofu. The commodities contributed 1.54 percent, 0.13 percent, and 0.12 percent, respectively, to inflation.
Meanwhile, Tual city (Maluku province) reported higher deflation of minus 0.27 percent compared to Kendari city (Southeast Sulawesi province), which recorded deflation of minus 0.07 percent.
Rabbitfish (Siganus sp.), air transportation, as well as Decapterus fish contributed 1.17 percent, 0.15 percent, and 0.14 percent, respectively, to the deflation in Tual city.
The head of BPS further informed that the limited stock of red chili and the revocation of the Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 6 of 2022 concerning the Determination of the Highest Retail Price of Palm Cooking Oil triggered the inflation in March 2022.
