A campaign is required to stop the misleading words.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Second Youth 20 (Y20) Pre-Summit meeting, scheduled to be held in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province on April 23-25, 2022, will discuss the role of young people in digital transformation in G20 countries.

The meeting will also highlight the benefits of digital transformation in increasing young people's digital financial awareness as well as promoting their inclusion and innovation in digital governance.

Hence, Y20 Co-Chair Gracia Paramita noted in a statement on Tuesday evening that two sub-topics at the meeting will be the role of youth in digital governance and the development of digital finance.

Paramita noted that several young people were apprehensive about the security of online private data and the implementation of big data.

“According to a survey that we conducted on 5,700 youths in 19 (G20) countries, 64 percent of the respondents said that they were worried about personal data security on digital platforms," she stated.

The respondents expressed concern that the data was vulnerable to being traded in the digital black market.

Meanwhile, regarding digital finance, the young people expressed concern over the rise of online loans and financial applications.

"In addition, the meeting will discuss how to take precautionary measures against illegal online loans and other illegal digital transactions," the Y20 co-chair stated.

The survey also found that 61 percent of the respondents experienced internet connectivity problems and had to bear high costs to get high-speed internet service.

The youth forum expected that Indonesia’s 2022 G20 Presidency can establish strict law enforcement for digital violators to eradicate illegal data trade that harms the public.

"In addition, hoaxes, misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech will become the second topic in the digital governance discussion. A campaign is required to stop the misleading words," Paramita remarked.

She assessed that the attempt is important since sometimes people forget their ethics in the digital space.

The Y20 Summit to be held on July 17-24, 2022, in Jakarta and Bandung City, West Java Province, will raise the theme of "From Recovery to Resilience: Rebuilding the Youth Agenda Beyond COVID-19."

Y20 is an official communication forum for youths from all G20 member countries.
